How You Can Help
You can help us continue to support technology education by:
- providing your surplus computer equipment to the program
- volunteering time to the program
- providing funding assistance for program operations and administration
- donating storage space to the program
- donating transportation support to the program
Acceptable Equipment
In order to minimize the time needed for refurbishment and get the computers to the schools, libraries and not-for-profit learning organizations faster, CFS-NB prefers to receive donated equipment that is in good working order.
We accept all computer equipment. At present, we cannot accept non-working CRT monitors due to the high cost of recycling. However, we can recycle most other computers accessories including working colour monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, modems, scanners, digital cameras and CD-ROM drives. Any application software should include all related diskettes or compact discs, applicable manuals and the original product license agreements, if possible. If the program was pre-installed, the software manuals and end-user license agreements should accompany the donation.
For your protection, CFS-NB erases all data recorded on donated hard drives using either DBAN or Secure Erase. DBAN and Secure Erase were approved by the RCMP to erase all the information while superimposing the texts with zeros, making the text inaccessible.
Here is a list of acceptable equipment:
- Desktop Computers
- Laptops
- Servers
- LCD Monitors (all sizes)
- Powered Speakers
- Computer Mouses
- Keyboards
- Printers
- Scanners (USB; original software included)
- Fax machines
- Photocopiers
Note: we will accept equipment that is not of use to the program for recycling but there may be fees required so we can properly recycle certain hardware.
Tax Receipts
As a registered charity, tax receipts can be given to individuals or companies who donate computers at the Pentium 4 level or higher.
Receipt amounts will be reduced if units are non-functional or components are missing. Receipts are not issued for other components (such as keyboards, mice, etc) when donated separately.
Drop-off/Pick-up
Pick-Up:
CFS-NB offers a pick-up service for donated equipment but it is dependent on a number of different factors. Please contact us for more details.
Drop-Off:
If you prefer you can drop off your donated equipment to our office, located at 125 Hilton Road, Fredericton, NB. If you are not in the Fredericton area contact us to find out the drop off location closest to you. Please note that large deliveries should be called in ahead of time so that CFS-NB can prepare for the shipment.
